A few years ago, I wrote this poem. It was inspired by the Word of God. One verse that stood out specifically was Proverbs 3:5-6. The New King James Version states:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.”

The Right Thing
Sometimes doing the right thing
is doing the inexplicably hard thing
Sometimes it’s letting go of an image and
what others think
But all the time it’s trusting in what God
has said no matter the situation, what we
“believe,” the people around and even who
or what we want to be
The right thing is doing it God’s way no
matter what wants to get in our way
