Hello all! Here you will find useful Bible themed prompts for whatever creation God puts in you to create. You know how most prompts are geared toward writers. That is not the case here. (Though you can find some here as well, for example: Useful Writing Prompts for Your Next Creation: Summer Themed – The Promise Song). So, whether you are an artist, sculptor, filmmaker, or poet, this list is for you. Let’s break down how this works. First, you’ll be introduced to the specific theme with a link to the Bible verse that it is attached to. Then, you will find the prompt. Each prompt has three questions attached, story narrowing questions. These questions are here to help you narrow down the creative choices because what is the point of a prompt if it does not help direct the creation with efficiency. This will help create an efficient and effective creative session.
Prompt disclaimer: Remember, these prompts are jumping off points. Feel free to use any or all of them for whatever creation you feel that God is leading you to create. Let’s begin!
#1. Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NASB)
Prompt: Love, joy peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Use these fruits of the spirit as main parts of your creation. Whether you use them as characters, images, concepts, make them the lead/main part of your creation.
Narrowing Questions: Are the fruit of the spirit conceptualized as characters? Or, are they simply concepts to be addressed in the creation? Is this a visual creation or a writing?
#2. Do not be anxious/Peace which passes all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace which passes all understanding will guard your hearts and mind in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV).
Prompt: A young adult finding peace which passes all understanding by following this verse in a sea of anxious people.
Narrowing Questions: What does the surrounding world look like? How do the people around the young adult react? What is one way to make it obvious that the young adult followed this scripture?
#3. A longing fulfilled (Proverbs 13:12)
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but longing fulfilled is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12 (NIV)
Prompt: Sounds beautiful, right. What image or feeling do you imagine to that scripture? Whatever it is, put it into your main character. Your main character just got some awesome news! Whooohooo! Your main character has been waiting and praying for this forever and here it is, fulfilled.
Narrowing Questions: What is the fulfilled longing? How many characters are there? What does the moment of realization look like?
#4. Armor of God for Spiritual War (Ephesians 6:10-20)
The belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, preparation of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. Be sure to read all of this passage (Ephesians 6:10-20) to really get a feel of the importance and power behind the Armor of God before trying to use it in this prompt.
Prompt: This notes that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against powers, principalities and rulers of darkness. (See Ephesians 6:12). So, let’s make the background of this creation a spiritual war. Try to create the Armor of God in a spiritual war protecting a new believer who stands in awe of the purpose and use of the armor of God.
Narrowing Questions: Is this person physically able to feel and see the armor? Where does the spiritual war take place? Is this a Christian fantasy piece or a contemporary piece?
#5. Exile (Jeremiah 29:11-14)
For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, ‘declares the Lord. ‘and I will restore your fortunes and will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you,‘ declares the Lord, ‘and I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you into exile.’ Jeremiah 29:11-14 (NASB)
Prompt: Someone in exile either hears this message or realizes it though some form or function.
Narrowing Questions: What is the background world like? Why is this person in exile? How does hearing this message or realizing it through other means effect, help or change the person?
